Messi committed to Inter Miami, not Newell's return
Messi has no plans to leave Inter Miami or return to Newell's Old Boys, with his long-term contract and role intact.
For fantasy managers, Lionel Messi (FWD, Inter Miami) staying put is a major hold signal. Reports say there are no talks over a Newell's return, and he remains fully focused on Inter Miami through his 2028 contract. With 25 goals in 2026, his 90-minute upside and goal volume stay elite. Risk: Low. Long-term hold.
Fantasy Analysis
Messi's transfer risk is effectively removed, which protects his league-leading scoring ceiling for the rest of the season and beyond. In Kickbase, a nailed 90-minute FWD with elite goal output is a premium captaincy asset because every full match maximizes 10-minute scoring blocks. Unless his role changes, there is no reason to sell.
